Choon Mah-Meggett, DTM

Prior to coming to the shores of North America in 1989, Choon was a well-known and popular 20-year veteran of the travel industry in Singapore. Choon started speaking to Rotary Clubs and other local and civic-minded organizations in the late 1980’s and has not stopped speaking since!

Choon’s diverse background makes her uniquely qualified to train in many fields, She has a strong background in communication and an undergraduate degree in Mass Communication. Choon taught and lived in Fresno for five years, and started her Masters degree program in Education - Administration and Supervision before relocating to the South Bay of Los Angeles where she switched majors to Art and The Humanities and continued teaching there for the next five years!

Throughout her careers, Choon believed in the value of communication. She served as International Director and then as Chairperson for the Women’s Travel Club of Singapore’s Pacific Regional Conference in 1982; she served as the Vice-President of The Musicians Union and then as the Honorary Coordinator of the 1987 International Jazz Festival in Singapore. Choon served as Public Relations/Editor and later, President of the Professional Womens Travel Club of Los Angeles upon relocation to San Fernando Valley in 1996. She joined Toastmasters in the South Bay in October 1999 and has held many Officer positions in District One, including Area Governor and current co-Chairs of The Speakers Bureau and The Fall 2007 Conference, and was showcased at The Toastmasters International’s Regional Conference at The Humorous Speech segment of the event. Today, she is a very happy boss of her own business with Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc.

With humor and passion, Choon has trained thousands of students in both oral and written communication skills as well as entertained audiences all over the world -especially during her travel industry years. She has delivered hundreds of workshops on effective speaking skills for both adults and youth and communication workshops for Managers for LA City employees and for the medical profession. Choon’s workshops will provide concrete skills that will enable you to meet the challenges of public speaking in today’s society!

Workshop on Communication

Who Should Attend: Anyone who wants to increase their ability to succeed by increasing the ability to communicate more effectively. Communication is 10% verbal and 90% non-verbal. You will be able to identify the non-verbal and use them to add sizzle to any presentation!

Overview: It has been said that most misunderstandings in communication are caused by poor communication skills! This 100-minute fun inter-active workshop will teach powerful techniques as to how well we listen, how to use gender-based communication, how to brilliantly connect with your audience, the words we use and the effect they have(formal, informal, casual, slang), positive communication phrases, barriers to effective platform presentations and how to overcome them,

Message, Music and Delivery – an introduction to public-speaking
Introduction Exercise
How Well Do You Listen?
Barriers to Communication – I know you hear but are you listening?
How to Engage Your Audience(tell…show…involve…)
The Words We Use – Do we say what we mean?
Gender-based Communication – Can we bridge this gap or are we better off trying to understand that Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus?
Non-Verbal Communication

Equipment Requirements: Pens. This workshop consists of presentation, discussion, and fun, inter-active activities to demonstrate key points.

Time: 100 minutes(can be customized to fit any occasion).
